OUR PEOPLE

We've been lucky to have lots of help and support.

THE WIDE AWAKE TEAM

We believe in sustained engagement with our craft.

Everyone who works is encouraged to consider "What is beauty?" and to bake in ways that respond to that question. We each take time from our work to study new processes and to meet with bakers from other bakeries. At the same time, we celebrate the power of focused and sustained practice.

IT ACTUALLY DOES TAKE A VILLAGE

We work closely with Greg Russo and Neal Johnston of Farmer Ground Flour and Thor Oechsner and Dan Gladstone of Oechsner Farms to make the GROW IT, MILL IT, BAKE IT partnership a reality.

Billy O'Brien is our daily hero. He's the guiding spirit and designer of our oven, and we enjoy his modifications to almost every tool we use. John Stager and Graham Foulkes have helped us fix countless unfixable things. Max Paskin gets called too often, and he always helps. Clark Marshall made the whole place stick to the earth.

All of our beautiful graphics are by the extraordinary Q. Cassetti of Trumansburg, NY.  Allison Usavage, Jason Koski, Robyn Wishna, David McInnis, Rachel Lodder, and Stefan Senders are responsible for most of our photos. Allison Usavage, Darcy Binns, and Becky Lane made the videos. We like to partner with Rachel Conroy who runs Kinship & Company, and whose work and care vastly improved our lives at the bakeryMelissa Madden, who did so much to build the Finger Lakes Cider House, inspired us from the first moment, and she currently tends our social media.

Gary Redmond, who almost single-handedly ignited the growth of the Finger Lakes foodshed, was unstinting in his support for the mill and the bakery, and his weekly visits to the bakery to taste and talk were our joy. He died only days before we opened commercially, and so we named his favorite bread after him: "Gary's Bread." His legacy lives on over at Regional Access.

We know we've left your name out. We apologize. There are too many friends to list! We feel extraordinarily lucky to have the support of so many community members near and far.
